Tŷ Cerdd’s mission is to promote and celebrate the creation, performance and recording of the contemporary classical music of Wales, engaging with communities and audiences nationally and internationally.
Our aim is to promote and increase the range and number of professional and non-professional performances of the contemporary classical music of Wales, developing and creating new work. We want to develop the reach, engagement and participation, of contemporary classical music of Wales in communities across Wales, particularly with young people. Central to our vision is our dedication to support the Welsh non-professional music sector in the creation and performances of the contemporary classical music of Wales.
Tŷ Cerdd – Music Centre Wales is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation formed in 2013. Previously Tŷ Cerdd was an Unincorporated Association formed in 2004 which was the product of the amalgamation of the Welsh Amateur Music Federation (WAMF) and the Welsh Music Information Centre (WMIC).
Tŷ Cerdd was created in order to continue providing services to performing societies in Wales and to safeguard the repository of composer manuscripts held in its collection. Since 2013 the services provided by Tŷ Cerdd have become focussed more closely on the promotion of the classical contemporary music of Wales. This is being achieved through on-line promotion and through the creation of Tŷ Cerdd Records both of which support the organisation’s main charitable purpose. Discover Welsh Music (www.discoverwelshmusic.com) was launched in December 2015 as a new on-line hub which is intended to provide a distribution service to all publishers of Welsh classical contemporary music. This new website has been developed in partnership with National Library of Wales and Faber Music.
In December 2015, Tŷ Cerdd became a distributor of lottery funds offering 5 new grant-giving schemes. These are designed to further the mission and aims of the organisation and details of these can be found here.
Tŷ Cerdd has developed strong connections internationally by membership of:
- International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM)
- European Brass Band Association (EBBA)
- International Association of Music Centres (IAMIC)
Tŷ Cerdd recognises the strategic opportunities that these international associations offer our professional and non-professional music-makers and will promote Welsh composers and performers through these memberships.
Tŷ Cerdd – Music Centre Wales receives funding from the Arts Council of Wales, the Welsh Assembly Government and the PRS Foundation.
