Burry Port Town Band West Wales Solo and Ensemble Day 2017

Date:01 November 2016

West Wales Solo & Ensemble Day (WWSED) - Saturday 28th January 2017

Dear All,

After the success of last the West Wales Solo & Ensemble Day in February 2015, Burry Port Town Band is very excited to confirm that this year’s event will be held on Saturday 28th January 2017 at the Memorial Hall, Burry Port. The event will begin at 10am with the Youth Band classes followed by the Solo, Duet, Trio and Ensembles, although we will be unable to confirm actual timings until we have received our entries.

We will therefore update our website 10 days before the event with the timings for the day itself.

We hope that the event will be well supported by brass players from schools, ensembles and bands from the South Wales area. We are very excited that we’ve engaged some talented, local adjudicators again for 2017, and we believe it will be an ideal opportunity for youth bands, players and ensembles the chance to show their talents to a wider audience.

Traditionally, competitions such as this included separate ‘Air Varie’ and ‘Slow Melody’ sections for soloists but with today’s wide-ranging repertoire, it has been decided to make each solo section own-choice with a separate prize for the best ‘Slow Melody’. Every entrant will receive an award, which will be ranked as ‘Gold’, ‘Silver’, ‘Bronze’ or ‘Highly Commended’.

We are arranging for a photographer to be available at the festival so that all performers can have their photographs taken, although no performer is under any obligation to purchase. Please therefore ensure that you have parental or guardian consent available with you on the day (or in writing). In recent years, performers have commented on the quality and value for money for many of the packages available.

If you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact Nils Richards, the coordinator on 07969 481064 or by email at

Best regards

Graham Howe
