CoDI Composer Pathways

Swansea Laptop Orchestra

We are delighted to announce a the launch of a new programme of composer development.

CoDI Composer Pathways (codi in Welsh = to raise; CoDI = Composer Development Initiative) is the first strategic programme of its kind in Wales, and through it we aim to develop opportunities for classical (including electronic) composers at all stages of their career. We aim to create a community of Welsh composers, promoting shared learning and collaboration; to create pathways to career development and performance opportunities.

CoDI comprises three strands:

• At the heart of the programme is INTERACT – an online and physical place for artists to connect. Networking sessions and workshops will take place in locations around Wales (as well as our Cardiff home in Wales Millennium Centre) – with guests speakers, and the opportunity to make connections. The start of a new community of composers.

ELECTRONIC is an opportunity for six composers to write for electronic performance group the Swansea Laptop Orchestra: an open call and selection process, followed by workshops over six months, culminating in a performance and recording.

THEATRE develops a model created over two years with Hijinx (a professional theatre company working with actors with learning disabilities): a young professional composes and realises music for Hijinx’s Odyssey (participatory community Christmas production).

Tŷ Cerdd gratefully acknowledges support from PRS for Music Foundation and Arts Council of Wales.
