Youth Music

NYAW group 1

Tŷ Cerdd - Music Centre Wales places great emphasis on the importance of music as a means of developing cultural and social awareness, essential transferable skills, and, not least, enjoyment. The holistic benefits of music-making are particularly relevant as far as young people are concerned, and it scarcely needs pointing out that the future of a music tradition in Wales – both amateur and professional – depends on the encouragement and support that is given to young musicians.

Tŷ Cerdd (as the Welsh Amateur Music Federation) formed the National Youth Brass Band of Wales in 1982, and the National Youth Choir of Wales in 1984. More recently, and working in partnership with the Welsh Joint Education Committee to deliver National Youth Arts Wales, Tŷ Cerdd formed National Youth Jazz Wales in 2001, the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales in 2002, and National Youth Symphonic Brass in 2004. In October 2015 it will run an inaugural National Youth Training Band of Wales workshop.
