National Youth Arts Wales

National Youth Arts Wales represents a partnership between Tŷ Cerdd (whose remit includes the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, National Youth Symphonic Brass Wales, National Youth Choir of Wales, National Youth Training Choir of Wales, National Youth Jazz Wales and the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales) and the Welsh Joint Education Committee (which has responsibility for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, National Youth Theatre of Wales and National Youth Dance Wales).

As part of a common code of practice, participants in each of the music ensembles are drawn from all parts of Wales by annual audition and re-audition. Members are required to demonstrate loyalty to their school or college and county music ensemble(s), and often belong to music groups in their local community. Thus the pyramid of school, county, college, community and national music is strengthened, to the mutual benefit of them all, and to music making in Wales generally. In terms of national youth music ensembles worldwide, these partnerships are arguably unique. In Wales, the high artistic standard of the "Nationals" relies on the development of work undertaken throughout all the other levels within the music pyramid. In return, members of the "Nationals" continue to make their invaluable contribution to the musical life of Wales and the wider world. Many become professional performers, musicians in their local community, teachers, or tutors and pastoral staff for the very ensembles of which they were once student members.

The National Youth Orchestra of Wales is administered by the WJEC.
