Philip Harper - Conductor
Having enjoyed considerable success with the Tongwynlais Temperance Band and Flowers Band, Philip Harper became Musical Director of the world-famous Cory Band in 2012 and within 18 months of his appointment had steered it back to the position of the world’s number one ranked band by winning 3 major titles - the National, European, and ‘Brass in Concert’. Philip was awarded ‘Conductor of the Year Award’ for 2013, voted for by readers of 4barsrest.com.
Philip is the editor of Brass Band World magazine, music editor of the Wright and Round Publishing and is in demand as a freelance conductor, educator and adjudicator with brass bands of all levels. He is a prolific composer and his original works and arrangements are played all over the world.
Mr Harper, who is very excited about the prospect of working with the National Youth Brass Band of Wales remarked, "I am thrilled to be asked to conduct the NYBBW course for 2015, and this will be my first time leading a national ensemble - something to which I have aspired for a long time! Most of my conducting work now takes place in Wales, so I already feel a strong attachment, and I look forward to working on and premiering a major new piece, alongside other exciting music."
